Description: ACTivate is our advanced theater class designed for older scholars. We are passionate about nurturing growth in young people through the theater arts! Students learn leadership through public speaking, teamwork, and seeing a task through to its conclusion. Communication skills (both verbal and non-verbal) are crucial, not just on stage but in everyday life. We’ll learn by doing and through mentor-, self- and peer-evaluation. We will begin our year with various theater and acting skills, focusing on community building, character development and finding your voice. Our plan is to audition in October for our full-length play, and perform it at the end of January. We realize that plans must be held loosely during this ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and have a few alternatives in mind.
Who is this class for? Apprentice and Self Directed scholars, ages 14 and up. Two years of previous acting experience is preferred, exceptions made at mentor's discretion.
Cost: $ 90, trades accepted
Mentor(s): Heather Fahnestock, Lead Mentor
Mentor Bio(s): I’m Heather. My husband, Jace, and I grew up in East Africa and met in high school at a boarding school in Kenya. We have been married for 31 years and have two grown children, Grant and Eilee. Both Grant and Eilee were home schooled all the way through high school and were greatly blessed through their participation in iFamily. What a wonderful opportunity we have as home schoolers to create intentional, meaningful community! I have had so much fun over the last eleven years watching youth blossom in our iShakespearelive, ACTivate and ACT2 classes. I am passionate about the role of theater in the development of leadership, character and confidence in young people. Our amazing youth have given me so much more than I have given them, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to mentor them.
