Description:i-Shakespeare: Shakespeare Conquest is the first Practice Scholar Project in the LEMI continuum. The objective of each Practice Scholar Project is to motivate the scholar to do the hard work of learning through: inspiring mentors, positive peer pressure, a culminating activity, outward motivations to choose (competitions and rewards), completing the project, and by planting seeds of determination to do hard things.
During the first semester, scholars become familiar with the challenging language of Shakespeare by studying a Shakespearean tragedy. The scholars will further be challenged to give an oral presentation on medieval life and history, to watch or read 17 of Shakespeare’s plays, memorize a passage from a play, and participate in a Medieval Feast/Fair.
The second semester focuses on actor training and implementing everything learned about language and human nature by preparing and performing a Shakespeare Comedy in the spring.
Scholars can also look forward to earning the right to be crowned at our Shakespearean Fair (1st semester).
“Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them.” ~William Shakespeare, Twelfth Night

Who is this class for? 12 and up
Cost:$100 per semester. A costume and script fee of $35 will be added to the second semester. You will also be required to purchase the Cliff notes Complete version of selected Shakespeare plays. The second semester, the students will be required to purchase their own tights and shoes for the play. We do a group order for tights and D.I. runs for the shoes so the cost of these should be low. Plus we will ask for food donations for concessions.
Mentor(s):Heather Wolfley and Cosette Stevens
Mentor Bio(s): I’m Heather, a thirty something Mamma of 5 lively and entertaining children. I have been known to have a snarky side which I use on a daily basis to save my sanity. I am slightly awkward and have a habit of over sharing my life and rambling when nervous. After 5 years of dating and 15 years of marriage my husband has been known to give me “the look” when my rambling takes new heights. My True love. My girls 3 are all too aware of my many rambling episodes and may also carry the rambling gene. My 2 boys think I am the coolest Mom ever because I sometimes let them eat ice cream for breakfast. I believe that skinny jeans are the work of the devil and have been known to be an especially gifted napper. Some would say that I have been making the Snuggie look good since 2008. I am a horrible speller and to make matters worse my N key is broken and only works sometimes. I am fairly gifted at parallel parking and have a hard time asking others for help. I think that children should own more books than stuffed animals, and a firm believer that art has a story to be told. I am excited and honored to help tell that story.
Hi, I’m Cosette, mother of five gloriously unique and fascinating people, and wife to Adam, the man who keeps our hearts and home merry. There are four constants in my life, faith, family, gardening, and the-thing-that-I’m-entirely-obsessed-with-studying (right now it’s the viola, next month Ukrainian egg painting?). I dream of the day when I’m able to play my viola without my youngest covering his ears. I enjoy studying foreign languages, but am a dedicated homebody. One of my favorite pastimes is taking out the garbage…it’s an opportunity to admire my beloved plants.
